Seeks Feedback on Proposed Two-Exam Scheme for Class X Board from 2026
The
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposed a new two-exam scheme
for Class X board examinations, set to be implemented from 2026. This change is
in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes
reducing the high stakes of board exams and promoting holistic learning. To
ensure all stakeholders have a say in this reform, CBSE has invited feedback on
the proposed scheme by March 9, 2025.
Key Highlights of the Proposed Scheme
- Two Board Exams in an
Academic Year
- Students will have the
opportunity to appear for board exams twice—one main exam and an
improvement attempt (if desired).
- This aims to reduce exam
pressure and offer a second chance for better performance.
- Flexible Subject Grouping
and Scheduling
- Science, Mathematics,
Social Science, Hindi, and English will follow a fixed exam schedule.
- Regional and foreign
languages will be conducted in a single sitting.
- Other elective subjects
will have multiple exam slots, and students will be assigned exam dates
accordingly.
- Revised Examination Calendar
- The first phase of Class X
board exams will be conducted between February 17 and March 6, 2026.
- The second phase (improvement
exams) will take place from May 5 to May 20, 2026.
- Assessment and Results
- The better score of the two
exams will be considered for the final result.
- Class X results will be
declared by April 20 for the first exam and by June 30 for the second
attempt.
- Implementation Measures
- Examination centers will
remain the same for both attempts.
- No new subjects can be
added after the first exam.
- Digital records of
performance will be stored in DigiLocker.
Invitation for Feedback
CBSE is
seeking feedback from students, parents, educators, and other stakeholders to
refine the proposed scheme. The policy will be reviewed and finalized after
considering the responses received.
Stakeholders
can share their feedback by March 9, 2025, through the official CBSE portal.
